I began my yoga practice in 1999 while living in Maui, HI. As my practice unfolded various kinks within my physical body, emotional being and mind began to dissipate. With further maturation as a yogini I became interested in yogic philosophy, texts and teachings from various lineages, incorporating different styles into my personal practice.
In 2003 I attended an accredited 9-month yoga teacher training program through Yoga Yoga in Austin, TX, where I received my 200-hours Hatha Yoga Certification. My instructors included Mehtab, Guru Karam, Jessica Montgomery and Sharon Moon. In 2005 I completed additional training toward my 500-hours Certification under Srivatsa Ramaswami and Leslie Lytle, specializing in Vinyasa Flow as well as Prenatal Yoga and Postnatal Yoga.
My experience teaching yoga to children stems from management of a childcare center and school for medically fragile, developmentally delayed and typically developing infants and toddlers, where I observed physical therapists and incorporated yoga into the healing process of special children.
Prior to moving back to Rochester, NY in June, 2007 I completed a 15,000 mile cross-country road trip with my husband Brian in which we studied with leading yoga instructors all over the United States.
As your yoga instructor I bring to each session an East meets West approach created through a holistic understanding of the fundamental mind/body connection. I integrate my academic background in biology, psychology, anatomy and physiology with the ancient modes of Yogic healing to make the exploratory journey from mind to body to heart.
My yoga classes nearly always include a Vinyasa component. I strive to make my classes mirror life: at times tough, at times rhythmic; at times completely personal and inwardly tuned. My classes are fun, inspiring, challenging and dedicated to helping people of all ages, sizes and abilities discover the joys of yoga practice and conscious living.
In October of 2007 I completed the DONA Birth Doula Workshop at Birth Matters! Becoming a Doula is something I have wanted to do for many years, and I am excited to be on this new path. I have a passionate interest in perinatal womens health, birth and infant development. The education I received in college, during my prenatal and postnatal yoga certification and during doula training have given me the relaxed confidence needed to assist women during very challenging and beautiful times in their lives.

Leslie, Group Yoga Student:
"Christa customizes every class to the specific needs of her students and offers such great explanations about the benefits of each pose, that I'm able to easily do them on my own at home properly and take care of my own aches and pains. Christa always offers a student-friendly detail of how to get into our poses, nothing like I've ever heard before - and I've been practicing for years. I feel like I'm really getting the true benefits of yoga under Christa's guidance!"
